The Artist
By Greyson Gilbert
I don't have much of an artistic personality. Most of the time, I find myself tending towards a barbaric approach to life. Tasks. Numbers. Getting after it. Survival. Although, as of recent, I find my mind wandering to new pursuits and asking new questions. I find my mind here, crafting an article about something I know very little of - art.
I desire to see the world for more than what it seems.
Yes, it is fallen, sinful, evil, and corrupt. War. Violence. But there is also
beauty and goodness. When God created heaven and earth, he
looked upon his creation and said, "it is good." Have you ever crafted
something and sat back, gazed at your work and thought, “I made this. I did this. And it is awesome.” I think it’s natural for us, because we are made in God’s image and He is the ultimate Artist. He is the supreme craftsmen. I look at the
valleys, mountains, rivers, plains, oceans, and sky in awe. The
world is His canvas and He is the artist of life.
He looked upon His creation and said that it is good. But then He
looked at His creation of man and said that it is very good. An artist admiring His
work. But it is more than mere admiration. His craft was borne from his love,
not just a love for his craft. He loved His creation with the entirety of His
infinite being, even before He ever sat down at the work bench.
Through this, I realized that the most beautiful
pieces of art on earth are not drawings, paintings, sculptures, buildings,
mountains, or oceans. His most grand creation is often not what we envision it to be. It can’t be found in the elevation of the highest peaks, or in the
depths of the deepest ocean crevice. Sure, those are grand pieces of heavenly
art, but those aren’t what the artist is most proud of. His most grand creation
is found at eye level. Us.
We are each canvases on which the Father wants to paint His
story of love, greater even than the story which He paints through the most beautiful
sunsets or snow-capped mountains.
To see the world, and people, as God sees them, you have to view them as an artist. Full of color and emotion. A most brilliant work of Art.
